Thank you for visiting Andi's blog. THANK YOU!
Andi, short from Khoubrian Kenixandi, is my beloved son, the youngest child from three. He has been in a vegetated state for the last six months.
How did Andi end up like this?
It all started soon after Andi's 5th birthday. On August 13, 2009, Andi was enjoying his tiny serving of birthday cake when he started to complain about not feeling well. Through the night and into the next day Andi steadily got worse, developing a fever, heavy coughing, and vomiting. I rushed Andi to a hospital where he immediately was admitted to ICU. While there, he soon developed seizures and fell into coma. A few days afterward, while still in a coma, he had a devastating brain stroke. The doctor informed me shortly afterward that the virus Andi had contracted had destroyed a major portion of the left side of his brain’s cells.
Andi was in coma for over a month. Even though he eventually regained consciousness, he was left blind, immobile and un-reacting. He has not spoken, moved on his own accord and is fed through a tube.
The neurologists available in both Indonesia and Malaysia have all but given up on my son. However, I refused to do the same thing. With the ability of internet research, I have learned of a special town in China that specializes in neurological diseases. I have consulted with one of the doctors there and he basically gave Andi a 50:50 chance of getting some mobility through both brain and nerve stimulation.
I want to give Andi every opportunity possible, he was sweet and bright. He had advanced into basic multiplication while he was still in kindergarten. He is my everything, but I cannot be his everything, I do not have the means to afford his medical treatment that may give his future back.
Any parents would be very willing to pay this price for their kids. I would too in a heartbeat, I am not an exception. There is only one issue, I can't afford Andi’s medical treatment. This hope has been introduced to me from three months ago, but I can't act upon it. It took months (which seems years when it is occupying your mind every moment) to contemplate yet another avenue, pleading for your help. As a parent, I finally came to realization that there are many kind hearts out there that may be able and very willing to help. I need to be humble, steel myself, and plead for help.
The doctor has advised me that each treatment will cost at least US$42,000 and it will take months and several treatments for Andi. The treatments will combine the best of the worlds, western technology and advanced medical know-how and eastern traditional herbal and acupuncture.
There are many ways that you can help Andi. If donation is not possible, you can spread the call to action through email and have people check out Andi's facebook pages and blog. We will be updating both pages on Andi's condition weekly and hope that everybody can learn from this incident and prevent this from happening to your child, cousin, nephew or niece, grandchild, and many other kids.
Visit Andi's facebook and blog to learn about the chronology of the events that lead to Andi’s situation. Check out Andi's latest pictures or go back to his earlier pictures where my son was still all that I could have ever wanted him to be. Don’t forget to leave your prayers and support on Donor’s Wall.
You can also follow the fund raising, what is the goal, see how far we are away from each milestone. Once we reach the first goal, Andi can pack up to get his medical treatment! We can only go one step at a time, I can't even guess at the exact amount of treatments, how long we must stay in China or how fast Andi will respond. But still, this is a significant first step towards his cure.
Come again and follow our stories, pictures, and journeys to bring Andi's life back!
