The Liveliness of Andi

We will post story about Andy when he was a healthy and curious boy. This story will be gathered from time to time, do come back and check out this section again. Enjoy!

-- Lost in Translation, Literally -- by Aunt Lily
Andi's cousin, Bodhi, visited Indonesia with his Mom.  Andi played with him (Bodhi is one month older than Andi).  They played well together.  Most of the time they used make up sign language.  Sometime they talked to each other, and they have no idea what other were saying, for example : Andi said something rather random and silly to Bodhi, "Babi pincang" (=limping pig). Then, Bodhi asked him "Are you in charge?"  They actually do sound alike... :)

-- Andi Learning English or Vice Versa? -- by Aunt Lily
Andi was Bodhi's best buddy while in Indonesia, they played together while Bodhi was in Jakarta, despite the language issue.  They even created a language game.  Andi would point to something and said: "Meja" and Bodhi would answer: "Table".  Then, Bodhi would point something else: "Chair", Andi's turn to answer: "Kursi".  They went on and on and on.... :)

-- Andi's Last Day of School -- by Aunt Lily
It was another beautiful day in Jakarta. Daddy went to pick up Andi from school, he was a kindergartener. Andi was very happy to see his daddy and run to him. He immediately chatted away about his day.
Andi: "Daddy, daddy, I sat next to Steven today."
Daddy: "Why you sat next to Steven? You guys fight all the time, kicking feet, etc."
Andi: "Well, not anymore. We played together, he is nice now. We are best buddy."
Little did we know that this is Andi's last day of school.
The next morning after Andi fell sick, while he was still lying in bed, he asked his daddy: "Can I go to school?"
Can Andi go back to school? A question that can only be answered by time and by all of us that have known this story.

-- The Deceptiveness of Andi -- by Lukman Salim (aka Andi's Daddy)
Andi was still four and was in playgroup (or Kindergarten A).  In Indonesia the Kindergarten level was divided into two grades, K A and K B.  K A generally accepts 4-year old toddler and they advance to K B as the next grade before entering first grade.
As part of the discipline effort from a parent, Andi and I had an agreement that when he received a bad mark on his quiz, he was not allowed to get a treat.
One day, he received a bad mark and to save himself from trouble, he switched his quiz result with his class mate that sat next to him.
He was so happy to show the quiz result to me when being picked up, it was a good mark.
I was happy to see that too... not until we reached the parking lot, I finally realized that the result was not Andi's.
"Andi!!!"  I had to scold him and Andi cried for not able to get a treat.
I miss this interaction with Andi.  This experience seemed so trivial and unpleasant as parents experienced on a daily basis, yet, this type of every day routine, is the most memorable moment.

-- Andi's Display of Bravery -- by Aunt Lily
In Andi's school, just like any other school, there was a bully.  This bully liked to tease, hit, and scare other kids.
Andi's friend, William, was just another victim of the bully.  William had bigger physique than Andi, however, every time he was being bullied, he would run to Andi for help.  Andi would then have to face the bully.  He had no fear, in fact he got into trouble often times because of his heroic action; defending the victim of bully.
Now that Andi can't do his job at school, now that he laid helplessly on his bed, I wonder in his subconsciousness, if he ever thought of William and how William can survive in his school? Would now
be our turn to protect Andi from the physical and mind deterioration that he is suffering before it is becoming too late?
